Hi, I’m Elmer. I’m a 3-year-old shepherd mix, and I have a little secret… the shelter can feel pretty overwhelming for me. There are lots of loud noises, barking and constant activity. It’s hard for a sensitive guy like me to fully relax in all that.

But the moment I step outside? I turn into a completely different dog.

Suddenly I’m running. Playing. Tossing toys in the air like a professional athlete. I LOVE toys. And sunshine. And stretching out in the grass like I own the place.

Once I realize I’m safe, I settle in and let the adventure begin.

What I really need is a family who can see past the noise and understand that confidence grows with patience. Someone who will help me feel secure, keep encouraging me and cheer me on while I blossom. Because when I feel safe? I shine. I mean really shine. I’m not just another shepherd mix — I’m a superstar in progress.
